Maths is solving puzzles.

What is mathematics? It is solving puzzles. A puzzle is a game, toy, or problem designed to test ingenuity or knowledge. So mathematics is a way of describing things, a way of thinking, part art, part science, practical and theoretical all at the same time.

Most puzzles look diffficult at first glance but once you solve them they seem so easy. In the same way maths can both difficult and easy at the same time. It depends on what stage you are at in the puzzle solving process.

Given that:

+ O = ☼

= O + ■

+ ▲ + O = ☼ + ■ + ■

Which one of the following is ▲ equal to:

A: ☼ + ☼

B: O

C: ■ + ■

D: ☼

E: ■

Solution:

Rewritting first equation: ▲ + O = ☼ => ▲ = ☼ – O

Subtract this new equation from the third one.

+ ▲ + O = ☼ + ■ + ■ 3rd equation above

= ☼ – O new equation

_____________________

+ O = ■ + ■ + O

Then subtract the O from both sides to get

option C is correct: ▲ = ■ + ■

Now that is maths. If you need help in solving the puzzle that is maths, then give me a call on 085-1393768.
