I am continuously amazed at how many students who come to me for help with maths are not aware of the “Formulae and Tables approved for use in the state examinations” booklet published by the Government Publications Sales Office. This is the only reference material you will be supplied with during your Junior or Leaving Cert exam. It contains almost all of the formulas you might need. And remember, for parts of some questions writing down the appropriate formula can get you the attempt mark. Of course you need to know where to find it, so it is not very smart to turn up at your exam without being very familiar with this booklet.
It only costs €4 and if you are not prepared to invest that much to help optimise your results anything else I have to say is useless to you. I strongly recommend that with only seven weeks to go the best way to prepare for the exams is by doing past exam papers. Try doing them without any other reference material except this booklet as this is all that will be available to you in the real test. Know where to find every formula you might need in this booklet, not in the textbook you use at school.
There are 93 pages in the booklet but the stuff for your maths exams is in the first 35. You will find useful stuff for applied maths, physics and other science subjects in later pages so the same comments that apply to maths also apply to maths type questions in these other science subjects. Don’t forget the “Contents” pages at the start to help you find what you are looking for quickly.
